From the Black Hills Pioneer:
Sen. John Thune announced that the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded $110,000 to Lawrence County. The funding will be used to assess the issues related to the construction of a new taxiway at Black Hills Airport-Clyde Ice Field.
“Black Hills Airport-Clyde Ice Field is an important resource for the Black Hills region,” said Thune. “This funding will assist in efforts to improve the airport's capability to serve the surrounding area.”
“This funding actually goes to work on an environmental assessment and the design work, the engineering that needs to be done before we begin work on our parallel taxiway as well as updating and finalization of the airport layout plan,” said Black Hills Airport-Clyde Ice Field manager Ray Jilek.

Lawrence County Airport Board member Bob Golay said this is all just necessary work.
“There has to be a repeat of the environmental assessment done before we can proceed with this next phase,” he said.
Senator Thune serves on the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, which has primary jurisdiction over our nation's aviation system - including the funding allocated to airports across the country via the Aviation Trust Fund.
