From the Argus Leader:

Sen. John Thune, R-SD, has won a 2010 Wetland Conservation Achievement Award from Ducks Unlimited.

The award is presented in six categories and recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the restoration and conservation of North America's wetlands and waterfowl. Thune was chosen as the federal representative.

He was recognized by the organization for a demonstrated commitment to protecting the Prairie Pothole Region, a swath of prairie and wetlands that produces 70 percent of all the waterfowl in North America.

“Responsible conservation policy that balances the needs of landowners and wildlife is critical to economic success in South Dakota, the Midwest and the entire country,” Thune said. “Conservation groups like Ducks Unlimited are important advocates for well-formulated policy. I look forward to continuing to work with them in the years ahead.”
