YANKTON, S.D. (KTIV) -- With the US Senate dismissed for the next few days Senator John Thune found time to stop in Yankton, South Dakota Tuesday.
Thune spoke to a packed room about what he says are America's major issues. He named three; Jobs, reducing the national debt, and cutting spending.
Thune says he hates to be the "bearer of bad news," but says something has to be done soon.
But back in South Dakota Thune says he's optimistic.
He says having a strong Ag base has helped the state, but says "Rushmore State" needs more diversity in its economy.
"It's important that we be diversifying our economy, that we are putting the right policies in place that can allow our businesses to thrive and prosper here and South Dakota has done a good job of that," says Thune.
Thune says another big issue for the nation is healthcare. And He says he would vote in favor of repealing the current law.
