We're hearing for the first time from U.S. Senator John Thune about the deadly church shooting in South Carolina. Thune calls the rampage a "senseless loss of life," that has "no place for it in our society." But Thune adds it's too soon after the tragedy for Congress to engage in debate over how to curb gun violence.
Thune addressed the church shooting while meeting Friday with a U.S. government class at O'Gorman High School. While Thune says now is not the time for policy debate on Capitol Hill, Thune is hopeful that Congress can eventually come to agreement over preventing future tragedies.
